JOB PURPOSE: Assist in-house attorneys with processing of consumer bankruptcy matters including legal research, drafting and coordination with outside counsel nationwide. Support field coworkers by providing basic legal and policy guidance for addressing bankruptcy matters as well as other policy and legal matters that may arise during day-to-day operations. May also assist in investigations of customer complaints and with litigation support, as needed, to support other members of the legal department Support field employees by providing basic legal and policy guidance for addressing legal issues that arise during day-to-day operations.
Work location: Plano, Texas (hybrid - 3 days in-office / 2 days remote)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist field and/or field support coworkers with resolving issues related to customer bankruptcies
- Respond to bankruptcy filings by customers with correspondence to field, as required, and updates to customer records
- Respond to field inquiries regarding customer service and store issues arising from bankruptcy and work with field coworkers to resolve other customer issues
- Assist with the investigation of, respond to, and resolve customer complaints in coordination with in-house attorneys and other paralegals. Provide litigation support including obtaining, reviewing and indexing legal records and documents for litigation matters, as needed
- Calendaring and tracking hearings and deadlines
- Additional duties as assigned
- Respond to bankruptcy filings by customers
- Respond to demands, inquiries and other correspondence from debtor’s counsel
- Gather and analyze customer transactional data including documents and factual materials as needed to assist attorneys and field in resolving legal issues
- Monitor litigation
- Supervise and develop skills of paralegals / admins that support bankruptcy
- Maintain competency through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest developments
- Maintains professional attitude and atmosphere within the department
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- College degree or a certificate from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved paralegal program
- At least four years experience working as a paralegal in a law firm or in-house legal department
- At least four years litigation experience
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Working familiarity with PACER
- Must be highly organized and detail oriented.
- Must be a self-starter and be able to work with little supervision.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Friendly with outstanding customer service skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
